The Gambia

The Gambia is a beautiful West African country, located on both sides of the Gambia River. It is surrounded by North and South Senegal and is bordered to the west by the Atlantic Ocean. The country has a coastline of about 50 km, whilst the inland width is roughly 35 km. This means that, with a length of 320 km, the total area of The Gambia is 11,295 km2, making it the smallest country on the African continent. The Gambia has no minerals or other natural resources. An estimated 75% of the population is engaged in agriculture and stock rearing.

The Gambia is home to some magnificent flora and fauna. It has a subtropical climate with a dry and a wet season. The dry season lasts from about mid-October to mid-June.

According to the United Nations, around 62% of the population lives below the poverty line. For the people of The Gambia this means: little education for the poor, scant healthcare and contaminated drinking water. Urgent help is needed to improve people's living conditions.

To be able to continue our work, we really need your assistance.
Your contribution, however small it may be, will help children in The Gambia to go to school and will give them a safe home, a roof over their head and food. It will also give the local community access to good sanitary facilities and clean drinking water to help combat sickness.
